Pro-Pak Inc. – Going Green In Your Office
The packing industry has certainly changed since I started my business, mentioned Daniel Kravitz, the founder of Pro-Pak Inc. I can remember when clients would come in and purchase whole rolls of bubble wrap so kids at a birthday party could dance on the bubbles. There was never a thought of going green 40 years ago. Now, the majority of materials Kravitz uses for his shipments are made from recycled materials, including packing foam made from soybeans and his specialty designed ArtCartons®. Pro-Pak is also one of the only companies that accepts packing peanuts for recycling.
Daniel Kravitz pioneered the packaging and shipping industry 40 years ago with Pro-Pak Inc. The company specializes in packing and shipping priceless artwork and antiques and has packed for everyone from Queen Elizabeth to Michael Jordan. In addition, Pro-Pak has packed and shipped for Art Expo, Antique Expo and Sofa.
Kravitz has been a regular participant in citywide Earth Day celebrations and helped the Heller Nature Center in Highland Park, IL start their recycling program over 25 years ago. He even focuses on green in his company’s office as well as his packaging plant and has “green” suggestions for all businesses:
•Reduce the amount of paper used, by printing on the other side of old documents for interoffice use and faxing.
•Use your computer to go paperless.
•Use recycled paper only and recycle old ink cartridges and toners
•Cut down on energy usage by turning off computers at night and turning off lights when not in a room.
•Utilize office products that are eco-friendly including pens, soaps and non-toxic cleaners.
•Make sure the ventilation system is working properly. This will reduce the energy use and provide cleaner air.
•Place recycling containers throughout the office.
•Donate old computers to schools and charities
According to Kravitz, we spend so much time in our offices it is important to not only recycle but also reduce the toxins we breathe and the contaminants that enter our ecosystem.
