About The Founder

As an entrepreneur with an engineering and artistic background, Daniel Kravitz pioneered the packaging and shipping industry over almost 30 years ago, with Pro-Pak, Inc. Kravitz was first inspired when he worked for Greyhound Lines. In addition to passenger service, the company was also used for transporting packages. During his time with Greyhound, Kravitz utilized this shipping potential with local advertising and publicity, to increase profits. However, he noticed that several fragile heirlooms were carefully packed up by their owners, and sent off, only to arrive at their destinations, broken.

Dan Measuring. Kravitz realized that there was a real need for a shipping and packing service that specialized in priceless, fragile, and sentimental items. He began experimenting with different packing materials, such as discarded boxes, bubble wrap and foam. Using second-hand dishes and glasses, several variables were extensively tested, based on atmosphere, vibrations, shipping trauma, and shock absorption. Most of this testing recreated what an actual package would experience along its journey. The ultimate trial was surviving a two-story fall, post-packing.

Using the knowledge he gained during these experiments, Kravitz developed an entire packing strategy with the most versatile box sizes, more substantial resources, a higher grade of cardboard, the use of wood crating, specking materials, and cost parameters. These elements, combined with Kravitz's ambitious nature, lead him to start up Pro-Pak, Inc., located in Northbrook, Illinois. Dan with bones. The first of its kind, Pro-Pak has prospered due to the successful balance between warm customer service and high-tech, customized packaging. The Art Carton Series is just one of his many unique advances, based on a packing kit to accommodate the individual needs of each fine artist.

Over the years, Kravitz has become a leading authority on the use and manufacturing of recycled and reusable packing materials, specializing in fragile and priceless works of art. Fostering his passions, Kravitz is a devotee of R.B. Fuller, Einstein, and Tesla. Other interests include, photography, quantum physics, paleontology, and herpetology, the study of reptiles and amphibians.

He is an accomplished speaker on the subject of recycled packaging in relation to the environment, and has been featured in the LA Times, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, The News Sun, USA Today, The Daily Herald, Highland Park News, Pioneer Press, Northshore Magazine, Chicago Magazine, Entrepreneurial Magazine, and on programs on WBBM News Radio, WGN Radio, Wally Phillips Show, Cathy and Judy Show, Eddie Schwartz Show, National Public Radio, Moody Bible Radio. Pro-Pak has grown into international success, shipping precious artifacts all over the world, but maintains loyal to the local community. School field trips are offered to his facility. Children are encouraged to bring canned goods, participate in step-by-step packing procedures, and eventually ship the cans to a local food pantry. Pro-Pak is the official packing company for the Chicago Art Expo, and primary packing company for several other art and antique shows within the Chicagoland area. Kravitz believes that the key to his success has been his ability to take on and face new challenges, without losing sight of his original concept.
